Giving Thanks, Again . . .
Please enjoy the thoughts and musings of our friend, supporter, and long-time contributor Art van Bodegraven Jr., who passed away on June 18, 2017. Art was a prolific writer and had amassed a collection of unpublished blog posts he had planned to run well into the future. To honor his memory, we will continue to post these remaining blogs as he had intended. If you’ve been a fan of The Art of Art blog, check out our tribute.
Being around to give thanks again this year is a great reason to give thanks, anyway. And, I am, despite some doubts, vertical and mobile.
Major thanks go to mijn vrouw, a 24/7 caregiver and gifted health care professional, who has seen me through both the years of fighting off pancreatic cancer, and the longer-term recovery process involving unplanned and unknown maladies and side effects. These, alone, have given me an intimate look into ER processes and protocols at one of the nation's best hospitals.
Kudos to my several doctors, RN's, Nurse Anesthetists, and other staff. They, in surgery, general practice, nephrology, gastroenterology, and a few other specialities, have been skilled, attentive, creative, and committed. The horror stories of old-time medical practice are: yes, horrible, and, old-time. Medicine today is a marvel of life-saving and curative practice.
Family is huge, and a mega-dose of comfort and support comes from our sons, daughters, and their significant others. This group includes grandchildren, sensitive, bright, caring, talented, and also supportive - La Diva, The Kid, Los Colombianos.
I have held on to the privilege of observing and commenting on developments in my chosen (and magnificent) profession, in the universe of supply chain management. Physical limitations in driving, traveling, and working on projects do not restrict the application of a jaundiced eye on goings-on in the business.
Along with this remaining attachment, I treasure the relationships with colleagues, local and national, who challenge my thinking and prop me up in weaker moments.
Thanks to all, and for everything. See you next year!
